Kitchen Remodel Tips from Your Plumber

Plumbing and Remodeling

Remodeling your kitchen is a huge project filled with lots of planning and decision making. Creating your dream kitchen comes with choosing the right paint colors and countertop materials, but more importantly, your plumbing needs to be well planned out and executed. After all, what’s a kitchen without running water?

Your plumbing team at Endurance Plumbing, Inc. is here with advice on how to factor plumbing into your remodel and keep it from becoming a costly afterthought. With help from a trustworthy and experienced plumber, your remodel will be in good hands and you’ll be cooking and entertaining in your dream kitchen in no time.

Plan Ahead

In addition to choosing the right look and design of your kitchen, it’s important to prepare financially for your remodel. We recommend having an additional emergency fund on hand for your project should something unexpected come up during the process. This way, there will be no project interruptions.

Layout

When you’re first starting to plan the remodel, think about the layout you’d like. If you’re looking for a simple remodel, try to keep as much of the previous layout as possible. This will avoid costly re-piping and re-routing for your plumbing and appliances.

If you’re set on a brand new layout, that is okay too! Simply discuss it with your plumber and electrician ahead of time so they can begin planning out the new routes, estimate the cost, and begin the work. Be prepared for the possible need for a new gas or sewer line as well.

Pipe Materials

Older homes typically have pipes that are made from outdated materials that cause problems for your plumbing and are not up to code. If you’re planning a remodel and your pipes are made from galvanized steel, your plumber may need to repipe your kitchen, and maybe even the whole home.

While this is an extensive project to add onto your already existing remodel, upgrading your pipes to new materials will give your brand new kitchen a fresh start!

Fixtures & Appliances

Now that your layout is set and your pipes are newly installed, it’s time to look at your fixtures and appliances.

Sink

You would be surprised how much of a difference a new sink can make in a kitchen. Think about what you have not liked about your sinks in the past; they were too small, too shallow, not the right material. Take your time choosing a sink that will work for your lifestyle and family.

Furthermore, modern sinks can come with a lot of additional tools and gadgets to make your kitchen life better. Installing a new garbage disposal will help grind down scraps of food and keep your drains clear. A water filter will drastically improve the taste and composition of your water, making for better tasting coffee, food, and a healthier body.

Dishwasher

Your dishwasher should be located near your sink, not just for easy loading and unloading, but so it can use the same water supply. If your current dishwasher is over 10 years old, use this remodel as an excuse to purchase a new one. Newer models are much more efficient and eco-friendly. You can expect to save water, therefore spending less on each load!

Refrigerator & Freezer

Your refrigerator and freezer are also going to require a water hookup for ice and water. During your layout planning, remember to place the refrigerator in a spot where it can easily access water.

Bonus tip: The water filtration system you installed in your sink will also keep the water carried to your fridge and freezer clean!
